The story goes . . . and they say it’s true . . .that Anabel Moriarty had no intention of producing such a thing.

Sure, the skiing hat she was knitting for her son Marvin was intended to be warm and snug. But that peak . . . that was a mistake. It was just that Marvin was in a hurry and there was no time to re-do it. So Anabel zipped the hat together and sent him off to the slopes of the Olympics in Cortina, Italy.

That was 1956. Since then the Original Moriarty hat has been the most popular and most copied hat in the world. There have since been many styles, colors and even special logo hats and sweaters knit to order.
